Ubuntu is the most overrated distro ever put out. It’s not nearly as good as its fanbois portray it to be — certainly not moreso than many other distros. Its “success” is all the result hype and fanboi “marketing”.
I had no idea it was out.
I have since moved to Arch linux.
I'm not even going to try it because the dutch pclos website sent me a email begging for money.
Good luck with arch! Lol, I don't mind using it but it sure did take a while for me to figure out my initial setup. Once I had things written down, I could get a usable system up in minutes, but that initial setup was long and tedious.
With that being said, I really like distros that do a lot to setup things out of the box so that I don't spend time getting a usable system, I instead spend time on the things that matter: coding, hacking, posting, reading, etc.
Ubuntu is focused in marketing.
PCLinuxOS is focused in usability.

I've been using PCLinuxOS for the best part of 12 months and find it the simplest to use, and most reliable Linux distro available. I feel I must agree with the comments of Francois that Ubuntu is not all it's cracked up to be, and only maintains its ranking because of the media coverage and hype associated with it.
What… you lost faith in the kids at DIgg? Maybeif PCLinuxOS was used by Paris Hilton, it would have helped.
I have to agree about the Ubuntu although I really have only extensively tested Kubuntu over the years which is not now or ever been a top 3 KDE distro. (dont get me wrong, most distros look the same as others with the smae DE but Kubuntu is never as stable, breaks a lot thing and always requires hold your breath with any kind of upgrade)
Ive used Xubuntu on an old T21 and it was fine but since then have found better lightweight distros and GNome is well…gnome. My past 6months on Gnome have proved to me that I still prefer KDE, XCFE and E17. I can use Gnome, its only a DE, but if feels like an old version of Windows.
I started using PCLOS as my friends who want to switch distro about 2 years ago and it 'just worked' out of the box like Ubuntu never has (Ive just spent the past 4-5 months with Dellbuntu, then a real 8.04 and then 8.10). I've been using Mandriva2009 kDE4.2 recently because 4.2 is finally ready for friends and family and it also hasnt failed me yet this month (10 Linux converts this month… Conflicker is our friend it seems. I will rescue your info, install you Gnu-Linux and even install your XP in VIrtuabox if you really need a Windows program).
I dont mind even that PCLOS is still using 3.5 because it is still a great distro and Compiz or Kwin later is more or less the same).
Im a Gentoo guy because I like to fiddle and have control and streamline my computer but for friends and family it looks like PCLInuxOS and Mandriva are still on top of my conversion distros. Puppy and DSL for the old hardware.
